One of those things in life we'll never understand

We came across this after the Royals/Rangers game in Kansas City. Yes, it's microwave oven left inexplicibly in the parking lot with no electricity to be found.

It looks quite a bit like the first mammoth microwave my family had in the mid-80's.

But it made me appreciate the dry heat...

So I ended up going to Florida last week. Paul asked one more time just before he left why I wasn't going, promising that he wouldn't have to work that much. I found a plane ticket on the cheap and last Tuesday, I was on the 6:00 a.m. flight to Atlanta with a 4-year-old kicking the back of my seat for most of the three hour flight (and the real kicker , I had a different child kicking the back of my seat for all of the flight back home on Friday).

And Florida was ended up being what I was expecting it to be. I got in on Tuesday afternoon and later joined Paul for the dinner at the conference. And that was pretty much the last I saw him for the three days I was there. It was just as I'd expected--Paul spent most of the time working while I had lots of time by myself to examine the inside of the hotel room. (Not that I only sat around the hotel room. I went to St. Augustine and did some shopping in the little boutique shops near the hotel.) He'd hoped to be able to sneak out Thursday afternoon so we could go to the beach. That didn't quite happen--when he finally got away, he only had an hour before the next meeting.

The gates leading into old St. Augustine. I spent the day in Old Town St. Augustine, wandering around the historic sites and the various stores. Albuquerque is celebrating it's 300th birthday this year and St. Augustine is almost 100 years older.

Paul's coworkers and their spouses at dinner on Wednesday. The food wasn't that great but the view was good and so was the company.

So, for four days I had the lyrics to "Ice Ice Baby" going through my head because of the A1A. Amazing how I can remember a crappy song from 15 years ago but have no idea what I had for dinner two days ago.

The Platinum Anniversary

Paul's family with the guests-of honor
48 stars on the flag in the gym
The gym was built in the early 1950's, when Owen was on the Louisville School Board. It was Owen & Reva's first choice for the party location for sentimental reasons. Thankfully, the afternoon was cool and rainy since the gym is un-air-conditioned. And the gym was actually a nice location because it gave the children plenty of room to run and play without being underfoot.

With Paul's grandparents

Roger and Paul holding Andrew and Joshua

After church on Sunday, we met back at Owen & Reva's for lunch and visiting (if you notice Andrew, when I tried to put him on the grass, he refused to be put down; it became quite the party trick)

Sarah and Matthew entertain their great-grandfather while Grandmother watches the rest of us from the porch

Andrew and I visit with Grandmother. She's not able to hold the babies but is always happy to have them near her.
