Day 11: Prayers

Paul and I spent the evening at his parents' house as they returned this week from Maryland. After dinner, we were playing a board game when Paul's aunt, my mother-in-law's sister, called. Paul's grandmother was admitted to the hospital yesterday and isn't doing well--she's not ill but is very, very weak. Paul's aunt is staying at the hospital with her while her husband is staying with Paul's grandfather. Neither grandparent is doing particularly well right now--they are 94 and 93. Owen will turn 95 on Christmas day. Reva has been in a slow decline since I first met her about nine years ago. Not unhealthy, just older and frailer. Age has only caught up with Owen in the past couple of years, although he's still doing his best to outrun it. Both are still arguing that they don't need to move to an assisted living facility or a nursing home. Having them move in with their children is another plan that is being opposed and honestly, it isn't a very good option. Paul's aunt lives the closest to them, about 2 hours west. Paul's uncle is in Illinois and his mother is here. All three children are going to be in Kansas this week to see if they can devise a plan or talk some sense into their parents. Prayers and good thoughts are needed for the family as everyone deals with an end that will be much sooner than we'd like. :(
